TPC Wakefield Tournament Rescheduled

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

January 5, 2010

Raleigh, NC

This weekend’s scheduled event at TPC Wakefield Plantation has been rescheduled for the weekend of February 13-14, 2010. Entries are now being accepted for the February 13-14 event dates. Players that have already registered for this event will be automatically transferred to the new dates.

The National Weather Service Warning regarding the extended sub freezing temperatures that will remain in the region through this coming weekend make it necessary to postpone our scheduled junior tournament at TPC Wakefield Plantation. The expected extremely cold temperatures pose a health risk and a very unpleasant environment for competitive golf. There is also a high likelihood that frost and extreme cold could delay or cancel opening of the golf course.

If you have entered this event and now have a schedule conflict and can not play please send an e-mail to withdrawals@tarheelgolf.org. Refunds are available to players that need to withdraw and paid an entry fee specifically for the TPC Wakefield tournament. If you were applying an entry fee credit for entry at TPC Wakefield and must withdraw you may apply that credit to another event.

Announcing the

Tarheel Golf Foundation’s

“Take Dead Aim Winter Tournament”

February 6, 2010

Sanford Golf Course

A one day, 18-hole event at Sanford Golf Course. This original 1934, Donald Ross designed golf course will be set up to encourage aggressive play and reward good shots with chances for birdies and eagles. Juniors are invited to join us for a “winter break” from traditional events and hunt for birdies and eagles.

The Tarheel Golf Foundation invites all junior golfers to take a “winter break” from nationally ranked events. The cold winter weather, golf course conditions and limited daylight hours makes it difficult for even the most skilled golfers to post low scores during January and February. Our players need to continue to compete and stay as sharp as possible without the threat of hurting their national and state rankings from playing in harsh conditions. Since the ranking systems are heavily weighted on scores, a player competing in cold weather that is forced to hit shots off of wet, dormant fairways is at a disadvantage to players that are competing in warmer winter climates. A survey of North Carolina College Golf Schedules shows that most college teams do not compete in North Carolina from December-February. We know that these players still practice and play locally while attending class but they do so to prepare for the spring season when the Conference, Regional and National Championships are held.

To encourage competition and aggressive play this event will not be reported to any ranking agency and we will use a Stableford scoring system where players receive points based on their score in relation to the par of each hole. Players making a bogey will receive one point, par will receive two points, birdies get three points, eagles earn four points and double eagles earn five points. The players in each division with the highest point total win. This fun format allows for very competitive and aggressive play. The Donald Ross designed Sanford Golf Club is the perfect venue for this format, with par 5 holes that may be reached in two and even some par four holes that you may try to reach with tee shots, it lends itself well to winter golf. Join us, take dead aim and see how many birdies and eagles you can score!

Entry fee for this event is $30.00

Entries are open online at www.tarheelgolf.org
